Ken Huges on Keyboard (February 2003) [...]
If Duran Duran had grown up in Detroit instead of England, they might
have sounded like this. [...] Whether he pursues a career as a producer
or as a solo artist [...] we foresee great things from Echoone. Keep
your eyes open for the rise of this hotshot!

Andrea Milan, the sole singer, songwriter, producer, and keyboardist behind Echo One, submitted a 4-song EP and called our attention to his pop ballad "I feel really so right". It was ok. Instead of ejecting the disc right then and there, though on a whim we skipped to "Wait a minute Mr Postman", expecting a motown cover. What jumped out of the monitors instead was a deadly funky groove ledby an infectious resonant synth figure. Sophisticated harmony is implied by spare voicings over an impressively restrained bass line. A drum loop worthy of James Brown keeps the track moving forward and your head bobbin' right along with it. A thick tremoloed Rhodes shifts the track's texture as it accompanies the vocal breakdown with liquid chords. If Duran Duran had grown up in Detroit instead of England, they might have sounded like this. Milan is a man of modes gear, and produced "Wait a minute" on a PC running Emagic Logic Audio Gold 4.8.1. Keyboard gear included an Alesis QS8, Roland JV.1080 and -1010 modules, and a Yamaha A3000 sampler. "My only mic is a Rhode NT1", reveals Milan, "And sometimes I use an Alesis Midiverb and an LA Audio compressor"
Some of his formative experiences took place during a stint working for a dance label Bliss Corporation. He absorbed skills and learned fromhis colleagues there, among them Eiffel 65. He has also worked with French label Felix Productions and their artist Shanya. "Collaborating is a great way to develop things, and when I have the opportunity, I surround myself with great musicians. Worth mentioning are Michele Lazzarini on Sax, Massimo on electric bass and guitar, and Antonio Martignon on guitar. I'm very thankful to these people for their aid and for sharing their great vibrations". Whether he pursues a career as a producer or as a solo artist, judging by his previous work, we foresee great things from Andrea Milan. Keep your eyes open for the rise of this hotshot
